The smartest person has made its debut on NPO 1 with resounding viewing figures. The quiz with Philip Freriks and Maarten van Rossem, which was previously broadcast on NPO 2, attracted more than 1.9 million viewers. Herman van der Zandt also successfully replaced Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. Top 2000 a gogo broke the 1 million viewer mark for the first time.
The return of The smartest person can be called a great success, according to figures from Stichting KijkOnderzoek. With 1.9 million viewers, it was immediately the best viewed program of Boxing Day. Nevertheless, the figures from the kick-off on NPO 1 are almost identical to those of previous winter seasons of the game show, which was then broadcast on NPO 2.
Philip Freriks and Maarten van Rossem will be broadcast on NPO 1 for the first time with the 21st season and there is a new decor. In addition, the game show is no longer five, but only four days to see every week. Parliamentary reporter Ron Fresen, Paralympic champion Marlou van Rhijn and actress Anniek Pheifer were the candidates in the first episode.

In 2020, the show’s Boxing Day kickoff attracted 635,000 viewers. In 2019, this number was 819,000.
It was in second place in the viewing figures of Stichting KijkOnderzoek NOS News from 8 p.m., which was attended by 1.6 million people. The Christmas special of Oh what a year on RTL 4 attracted 681,000 people. SBS 6 had to make do with 492,000 interested Christmas with the Gillis family.
