(THEno use denying it, lo smart working it’s the new normal and even if many companies have called their employees back to the office, more and more are those that have integrated hybrid working methods, i.e. partly face-to-face and partly remote.
Remote, however, does not necessarily mean at home. Potentially any place can become, with the right tools, a workstation and allow us to be productive. A bar, a library, a co-working space, but also a terrace, a garden or, why not, a beach.
In particular, this one tendency to work while in vacation spots is called workand derives from the fusion of the English words ‘work’ and ‘vacation’. Work it doesn’t mean not enjoying your free time or not carving out more than deserved spaces for relaxation and recreation, on the contrary. If you manage to organize yourself, you can extend your holidays or anticipate weekends away from the city, while being productive at certain pre-established times.
Here, then, that we can decide to work an hour or so while we are at poolside or on the patio of the house rented by the sea or, again, in the garden of the mountain house.
63% of Italian Gen Z looks to smart working for the choice of workplace
If someone still struggles to accept the idea of smart working or, even more, that of workwho has no doubts about it is the Generation Z.
Give it Future Proof study conducted by Dell Technologies in collaboration with the research company Savanta ComRes on a representative sample of adults aged 18-26 in 15 countries around the world, it emerged that the possibility of working flexibly and remotely is a very important aspect for Generation Z.
63% of the panel even cites smart working as a conditioning element of the choice of workplace. All in a scenario in which – according to the recent Smart Working Observatory of the School of Management of the Milan Polytechnic – in 2022 there were around 3.6 million remote workers, with a decrease of almost 500 thousand compared to 2021.
«The data in this study is not surprising and companies of any size and sector must take them into account, given that Gen Z is the one who will characterize – and condition – the world of work over the next few years,” he said Filippo Ligresti, vp & gm of Dell Technologies Italy. «In the near future – marked by a hybrid method of working between remote and face-to-face – it will be essential to base the corporate culture on the concept of trust. The role of business leaders will necessarily have to evolve, not limiting itself only to supervising profits and losses, but becoming real motivators, careful guardians of health, safety and well being of its employees”.
Digital nomadism and workation growing everywhere
According to theNational Association of Digital Nomadstoday all over the world there are over 35 million people (of various nationalities) who define themselves as digital nomads and this issue is intended for grow rapidly in the coming years.
Even the condition of work it’s an increasingly popular trend that sees people working while on temporary vacation.
The report of skyscanner on travel trends for 2023 reveals that solo travel is no longer a niche: in fact, 37% of Italian travelers intend to leave on their own during 2023. And while 77% of those interviewed still prefer to relax completely on holiday, nearly 10% plan to work while traveling this year.
The main reasons cited by those who will be doing the activity are the pleasure of working while traveling (34%) And the possibility of spending more time at one’s destination (29%).
In the light of these trends, accommodation facilities are also adapting and there are many who have thought of offering services, spaces and facilities precisely for those travellers who intend to spend part of the time spent on holiday also at Work.
