It happens all too often that scammers empty the bank account of the elderly, but a 92-year-old woman from Haarlem did not let that happen yesterday afternoon. After she received a call from a so-called bank employee, who said that her account had been blocked and looted and that a colleague would personally collect her card, all alarm bells went off for the woman.
On Friday afternoon, the 92-year-old from Haarlem is called by a man who pretends to be a bank employee. He tells her that her bank account has been drained and that is why the bank has blocked her card.
New bank card
Her bank card must be replaced immediately. He tells her that an employee will be on the doorstep that same afternoon to take the old pass. However, the woman must provide the pin code of her empty bank account.
After the remarkable phone call, the woman does not hesitate for a moment and calls the police. Several officers rush to the house and can arrest a 37-year-old woman from Beverwijk in the act.
A little further on, the so-called bank employee, a 30-year-old man from Velsen-Noord, is also arrested. The suspects are in custody pending further investigation.
