Residents of villages in Aa and Hunze who do not live so close to the environmental street in Gieten can organize a shredding day themselves from 1 June. The initiative should ensure that villagers in the outlying area can dispose of their pruning waste more easily.
Village associations or other groups of residents can register and receive a contribution of up to 800 euros for the organization of a shredding day. With the money, the villages can hire a gardener to put pruned branches and leaves through the shredder.
Villages and regions may apply for the allowance a maximum of twice a year. According to alderman Ivo Berghuis, in principle every village or region can apply for the compensation, but a selection will take place. “It is intended for residents who would otherwise have to drive far to the recycling center. Not everyone has access to a trailer,” says Berghuis.
“We do not exclude villages in advance. The initiative must only come from a village interest association or other group and all fragmentation must take place on the same day.”
