During the day, some of the checked baggage was not taken on the scheduled flights. This is reported by ANP.
There was talk of one technical fault as a result of which part of the system was temporarily unavailable, a spokesperson explains. It is unclear exactly what was going on.
The luggage from Departure Hall 2 had to be entered manually. That took longer, so not all the luggage could be taken along. On a day like today, Schiphol processes a total of approximately 150,000 suitcases.
Take several days
Today the Christmas holidays have started for many people. “We find this very annoying for the travelers who are affected by this. Together with the airlines involved, we are doing everything we can to send the luggage as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson added.
That could take days, she has to admit. “We are now accurately mapping out the time this will take, but it will certainly take several days.” Travelers are advised to monitor their airline’s online channels for more information.
