Tampere’s Tappara announces that its players Top Rönni, 19, is accused of rape. The criminal suspicion was revealed earlier on Thursday.
The suspected crime took place two years ago, when Rönni was still a minor. The player told the club about it himself.
Rönni commented on the issue in Tappara’s press release.
– Today, I have received the summons application related to the matter. The last two or so years have been hard waiting for the matter to progress. I trust that the related course of events will be clarified in connection with the trial. I am away from the team’s activities for the time being and I am focusing on handling the matter, says Rönni on Tappara’s website.
Tappara announced that neither the club nor the player will comment further on the case at this stage.
– We take the suspected crime seriously, but we are waiting for the court hearing and will assess the player’s position afterwards. This is also about labor law, CEO of Tamhockey Oy Mika Aro says.
