Slowthai released the video for second single “Feel Good” off their forthcoming punk album UGLY on February 7th. The idiosyncratic video for the single “Selfish” was released on January 25th and this time the rapper has chosen an unusual approach. He visited 35 of his fans at their homes while they heard his new single for the first time. They were selected from over 2,400 fans who were able to apply for the shoot at the end of 2022. They didn’t know that they would hear the new track live in front of the camera, that slowthai would also be in the room. The reactions to his appearance are correspondingly different.
In addition to his closeness, the video also shows the diversity in the British fan base, although everyone involved is rather young. However, the rapper’s willingness to be close to the fans is not limited to such exclusive visits. A first intimate UK tour has already been announced for this year. It should only include six dates and take place exclusively in pubs. To do this, he uses a tried-and-tested concept – symbolic admission prices. On the Best Night of Your Life tour, each ticket will cost one pound. In 2019, after the release of his first album NOTHING GREAT ABOUT BRTAIN, he has already played two short pub tours with this approach, albeit perhaps for different reasons. The ’99p’ and ‘Bet Ya a £5er’ tours cost exactly what they said and were huge successes.
Dramaturgy of the album roll-out so far
For the promo for the first released single “Selfish”, slowthai isolated themselves for a day in a mirrored room and streamed it live. The music video was created in the same setting. Only the artist was present at this first presentation of the new sound. The second step that has now been taken takes the whole thing more directly to the audience and slowthai back to people.
The album UGLY will be released on March 3, 2023.
