Slowthai pleads innocent in court after rape allegations

The UK rapper pleaded not guilty in court. The process is scheduled to begin in July 2024.

The British rapper and grime indie pop artist Slowthai has to comment on allegations of rape. The ME editorial team reported on the events back in May. Accordingly, Tyron Frampton, Slowthai’s real name, is said to have sexually assaulted a woman and raped her orally and vaginally. The case had already occurred in 2021 in the English city of Oxford.

On Thursday, June 15, Slowthai appeared before Gerang to already declare his innocence.

Slowthai’s court date next year

The genre-bending musician appeared in court accompanied by London resident Alex Blake-Walter, who was also accused of sexual assault by the same woman. Both pleaded not guilty in Oxford Court. A request for bail for Slowthai and Blake-Walter was granted on condition that they keep the court informed of their current place of residence.

Already in May of this year, the rapper appeared in court, at least virtually, after the allegations were made public for the first time. However, the actual start of Slowthai’s negotiations is not scheduled for July 2024.

On his social media channels, Frampton also protested his innocence to his fans and asked them to leave the trial uncommented and to respect his and his family’s privacy.

More about Slow Thai

Slowthai released his debut album NOTHING GREAT ABOUT BRITAIN in 2019, which was well received by critics and fans alike. ME author Friedrich Steffes lay gave the record five and a half stars out of a possible six. The follow-up album TYRON was released in 2021. It included high-profile features such as contributions from Skepta, A$AP Rocky and Denzel Curry. ME author Jens Uthoff gave the work five stars. On March 3rd of this year, Slowthai finally released his third and current album UGLY, on which the grime artist once again developed musically. Adding to his wild UK style were indie-pop influences that revealed a vulnerable side of Frampton. He won over fans all over the world and UGLY was also well received by us: five stars from Jens Uthoff again.
