The trial against the UK rapper will continue in June. Slowthai asks for privacy.
Slowthai appeared virtually before a court in Oxfordshire on Tuesday (May 16). The 28-year-old rapper is accused of rape. In September 2021, Tyron Frampton, Slowthai’s real name, is said to have penetrated a woman orally and vaginally in Oxford without her consent.
The Northampton musician only appeared virtually outside the courtroom to confirm his name, birthday and address, The Guardian reports. He was released on bail and his trial is due to resume at Oxford Crown Court in June.
Slowthai himself commented on the allegations in a statement on Instagram. “I’m innocent and I’m sure my name will be cleared. Until then, I will focus my energies on ending this as quickly and fairly as possible.” Finally, he asked his fans to leave the situation uncommented and to respect the process and the privacy of him and his family.
Slowthai released his debut album NOTHING GREAT ABOUT BRITAIN in 2019, which was well received by critics and fans alike. ME author Friedrich Steffes lay gave the record five and a half stars out of a possible six. The follow-up album TYRON was released in 2021. It included high-profile features such as contributions from Skepta, A$AP Rocky and Denzel Curry. ME author Jens Uthoff gave the work five stars. On March 3rd of this year, Slowthai finally released his third and current album UGLY, on which the grime artist once again developed musically. Adding to his wild UK style were indie-pop influences that revealed a vulnerable side of Frampton. He won over fans all over the world and UGLY was also well received by us: five stars from Jens Uthoff again.
