Slow Food 2023 Osterie d’Italia, chiocchiole and prizes

C.or is it a tavern? A place to feel at home. “A sincere welcome is one of the pillars on which the guide was built Taverns of Italy 2023, explained the founder of Slow Food Carlo Petrini. Taverns of Italy 2023snails and other symbols

Where there are stars in haute cuisine, in the Slow Food Osterie d’Italia guide there are snails. The symbol chosen by the association since its inception as a symbol of slowness. There are 1730 places, including farmhouses, wine bars with cuisine and restaurants to find a place in the 2023 edition. Of these well 270 were awarded with the snail for the excellent proposal, the environment, the cuisine and the hospitality in harmony with Slow Food. Over the years, the symbol of the snail has been added bottle (today there are 450) which indicates the care in the selection of wines.

New recognition of which 126 clubs have boasted is the Bere Bene which focuses on craft beers, juices, infusions, cocktails and spirits. And 2 other symbols appeared: the first to signal the offer of bread and the second for the selection of extra virgin olive oil. The regional inserts that enhance the uniqueness of the territory close. An example? Pizzerias in Campania, stoves in Puglia, piadinerie in Emilia Romagna, tripe shops in Tuscany, farinotti in Liguria and street eaters in Sicily.

The new entries

Leading the ranking of the new snails are Tuscany and Sicily with 6 novelties per region; Piedmont and Lazio follow with 5; Lombardy, Veneto and Abruzzo with 3; Friuli Venezia Giulia, Puglia, Campania and Calabria with 2; Trentino Alto Adige, Emilia Romagna and Basilicata with 1. Valle d’Aosta remained dry, «where however there is a renewed ferment», Liguria, Umbria, Marche, Molise and Sardinia.

The special prizes

Nine special prizes awarded. The first is the novelty carried away by Colet houserestaurant of the homonymous farm of Monastero di Vasco in the province of Cuneo. Here the menu, along with other ingredients, includes self-produced vegetables, legumes and fruit.

The best wine list is from Devetak of Savogna d’Isonzo in the Gorizia area, place with a cellar dug into the karst stone that houses 14,000 bottles chosen and cared for by Avgustin who skilfully combines them with the dishes of his wife Gabriella.

For the best regional cuisine we arrive in Olevano Romano, in Lazio, with the Sora Maria and Arcangelo restaurant that with the cuisine that evolves in tradition is present in more than one sector guide.

The best pantry is that ofValpolicella wine shop with hostesses Ada Riolfi and Carlotta Marchesini who know how to choose the best of the territory and go a little further when appropriate.
