The Slovenian professional cyclist Primoz Roglic is close to overall victory in the Italian stage race Tirreno-Adriatico. The three-time Vuelta winner won the sixth and penultimate stage around Osimo over 194 km and remains confident in the blue jersey after his third stage win in a row.
The German hopeful Lennard Kämna (Bora-hansgrohe), who was still in the lead after the fourth day, finished in a larger group of pursuers 20 seconds behind Roglic and fell back in the overall ranking.
Nikias Arndt wins intermediate sprint
Roglic from the Jumbo-Visma team beat Brit Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) and Joao Almeida (UEA Team Emirates) from Portugal in the final sprint on the demanding route, peppered with many short, toxic climbs passed and pushed the German off a podium place.
Nikias Arndt from Buchholz (Bahrain Victorious) snagged the only intermediate sprint of the day. Roglic, who wants to fight for the overall victory at the Giro d’Italia this year, has an 18-second advantage over the closest pursuer Almeida before Sunday’s final stage around San Benedetto del Tronto (154 km).
