Slovenia coach hopes for “breakthrough” at Lampic

Anamarija Lampic is Slovenia’s big biathlon hope. The trained cross-country skier made her mark in her first season among biathletes. Your coach Ricco Groß is now hoping for the next step. Unsurprisingly, this has to take place at the shooting range.

Completely surprising and with great ambitions, the 28-year-old switched from cross-country skiing to biathlon last winter. At first she had mainly wanted to compete in the second-rate IBU Cup, but was then thrown into the cold World Cup water in Hochfilzen by Slovenian coach Ricco Groß.

With success: A sensational fifth place in the sprint – despite three mistakes while standing – confirmed that Lampic can be counted on in the future. In the Antholz sprint, she also managed another fifth place over the course of the season.

In the summer, Groß now wants to work with his biathlete to ensure that she doesn’t ruin her exceptional running performance at the shooting range. “I hope that she makes a breakthrough in shooting,” said the former top German biathlete, who has been in charge of the Slovenian national team since 2022, to “chiemgau24.de”.

Great about biathlete Lampic: “The shooting process is now clear”

Groß was optimistic that Lampic would be able to take the next development step in the coming months: “She has now seen through the shooting process, she is very ambitious about it all.”

The 52-year-old wants to “carefully introduce Lampic to the world class”. Groß is therefore looking forward to the future: “I think we can still expect a lot from her.”

Ricco Groß recently stopped with the Slovenian national team in the Chiemgau Arena in Ruhpolding, where the team also “benefited from the fact that the IBU camp also took place in Ruhpolding during our training week. We had a good exchange there”.

In principle, the time in Ruhpolding was “perfectly” organized for the Slovenians, Groß also thanked course boss Alois Reiter.
