The ladies eight of Sloe rowers Groningen achieved a second place in the Dutch championship last weekend.
,,We are a very fanatical team and we destroy ourselves every game. Very special that we are already number two in the Netherlands in our first major league year,” rower Maike said in a press release.
The rowing season traditionally ends on the first weekend of November. More than 150 sloops from the Netherlands and abroad took part in the competition in Muiden. “The teams row twice on Saturday for 7.5 km around the island of Pampus and on Sunday this trip was repeated once more”, secretary Patricia Meijer of the Sloe rowers announced on Monday.
Canals of Groningen
The ladies train twice a week on the canals in Groningen. This year, for the first time, training was conducted on the basis of a special training program. ,,We are becoming more and more serious and that is now paying off,” said team captain Wieke.
The men’s team also participated in Muiden. They finished in eighth place in the first division.
