Slipknot announced their new album The End, So Far in July, due out September 30. Because of the title, fans speculated that the band will break up. Now Corey Taylor, the band’s lead singer, has commented on the rumours.
During a concert, Taylor declared, “This couldn’t be further from the fucking truth, my friends. The reason the album is called ‘The End, So Far’ is because it’s the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new chapter. Can you guys out there fucking understand me my friends?!”.
“Nothing sells albums like drama”
Shortly after that show, he made another statement on the subject on the radio show SiriusXM’s ‘Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk’. “People have been talking about the end of Slipknot since 2003, so it doesn’t really matter. If I was paid a dime for every time I had to scold the fans, I’d have a lot of cash, to put it that way. Nothing sells albums like drama, let’s put it that way, and even drama that doesn’t even come from us; it just comes from the fans. But at the same time I started saying on stage… explaining what the title is. It’s the fact that it’s… It’s the end so far, which simply means it’s the end of one era and the beginning of the next.”
With “The End, So Far” a new Slipknot era is supposed to dawn
He then went on to list some of Slipknot’s favorite bands, including Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Metallica, who he says “had different eras in their careers; it was never a straight line”. He added: “There is no continuous line, except for the members. And each era comes to a natural end and then comes the next. So the title reflects that [‚The End, So Far‘] contrary. For me it’s more about letting the fans know we’ll be back and reminding them that you never know what you’re going to experience with us. The next era will definitely be more ‘take off your gloves, see what happens and get going’.”
Will Slipknot change labels?
The End, So Far will feature her previously released singles The Chapeltown Rag, The Dying Song (Time To Sing) and Yen. Previously, the record “We Are Not Your Kind” was released in 2019. The band has been signed to Roadrunner Records since 1998. The forthcoming album is said to be her last work to be released by him. So far, no successor label is known.
Taylor also announced that he would like to record a “dark” and “very melodic” second solo album in early 2023. “So it’s still great rock ‘n’ roll on it. There’s some heavier stuff, but also some really great slower stuff. It’s going to be really great,” said the singer.
