In total, there are still 1,163 people in hospitals with Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. That is 22 more than Monday. However, it is still considerably less than a month ago when there were around 2000 people with the corona virus.
There are still 252 corona patients on the ICs, 10 fewer than a day earlier. That is the lowest number since early November. In the nursing wards, the number of corona patients increased by 32 to 911 in the past 24 hours.
Last 24 hours, 7 new corona patients were admitted to the ICs. 151 new patients were brought into the wards, the highest number in weeks.
The LCPS previously predicted that the number of corona patients in hospitals would increase again this month. This is related to the rapid spread of the omikron variant of the coronavirus. Although this variant is less sickening, more patients can still end up in hospitals because of the high infection numbers.
In addition, more people end up in hospital who are admitted for a reason other than Covid, but who test positive for the virus. These people also count as corona patients in the daily hospital figures, because they also have to be nursed in isolation.
