Residents of the municipalities of Aa and Hunze will spend slightly more money on municipal taxes in 2024 than they do now. The municipal council established the new rates on Thursday evening.
Owners of homes or business premises in the municipality will pay 1.9 percent more property tax next year, but that could have been even higher.
The mayor and aldermen originally planned to increase the property tax by 3.9 percent, but Municipal Interests thinks that is too much.
A proposal by that party to increase property tax by 1.9 percent instead received support from GroenLinks, D66 and CDA. Enough for a council majority.
All households in Aa and Hunze will pay 9 euros more next year for processing their waste. For single-person households, the waste tax amounts to 196.50 euros, households consisting of several people will pay an amount of 265 euros in 2024.
Here too, the Municipal Executive planned to implement a higher increase, by 18 and 24 euros respectively, but Municipal Interests, GroenLinks and CDA do not agree with this. Together the parties have enough seats to oppose that plan with a council majority.
Instead of an increase in the waste tax for all residents, it will now become more expensive to dump waste at the municipal recycling center in Gieten. The polluter will therefore pay more, is the idea of the three parties.
This means that in 2024 every household can only take 500 kilograms of residual waste to the recycling center for free. Now it is still 600 kilograms.
Anyone who wants to dump more than those free kilos of garbage now pays 0.15 euro cents per kilogram. That rate will be doubled next year, to 0.30 euro cents per kilo. Disposal of green waste remains completely free.
In addition to property tax and waste tax, other taxes are also increasing. For example, landowners will spend slightly more on sewer taxes next year. For most owners of owner-occupied homes, this will amount to an increase of a few euros.
The commuter tax will increase by 3.9 percent. In practice, owners of holiday homes will mainly have to pay this tax. The costs of funeral services also increased by 3.9 percent.
The tourist tax for next year has already been set at 1.25 euros per person per overnight stay at the end of 2022. For 2025, the Municipal Executive predicts that the tourist tax will increase by 0.05 euro cents to 1.30 euros.
