The volleyball players of Sliedrecht have won the Dutch Cup for the fourth time in five years. The team of coach Vera Koenen defeated VV Utrecht, which was in the cup final for the first time, in Ede in four sets: 26-24 25-27 25-19 25-17.
Sliedrecht previously won the cup in 2012, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Last year, Koenen’s team got stuck in the quarterfinals. Apollo 8 from Borne succeeded Sliedrecht as cup winner.
Utrecht makes its debut in the Eredivisie this season and reached the final battle of the cup tournament for the first time, thanks to a victory over defending champion Apollo 8 in the semi-finals after trailing 2-0 in sets.
Koenen, who will leave after this season, will also be on the hunt for the national title with her team in the coming weeks.
