Sleeping in is not an option for Team Assen: bus leaves early from France

It was already early morning this morning in France. Because despite yesterday’s sporting performance during the Alpe d’HuZes, resting was not an option. The suitcases were quickly packed, the bikes loaded and this morning it was up early. Because today on the program: the return trip to Assen.

Yesterday Team Assen participated in the Alpe d’HuZes with 140 participants. She raised 220,907 euros for the KWF cancer fight.

And after such an achievement, the main question is, of course, how do you feel? One of the students, Iris, is actually feeling better than expected. “I slept well, so that’s fine.”

“The day after, that’s how it really feels,” says teacher Christel. “Usually you really have a hangover feeling after such a sporting performance. But now I’m especially proud and those muscles will recover.” Supervisor Berend also notices that he did something yesterday.

It was quite an experience yesterday, even though it was tough, Iris agrees. “It was certainly tough, but it was also manageable. Because you just have to reach that finish line at least once.” Berend joins Iris. “It was super cool to have a common goal with all those people. Everyone is positive and helps each other. So I’m going again next year.”

And in addition to a great experience, the students also take home many memories. “I am especially proud of this group and the solidarity. You all start as different schools and now you are really a group,” says Christel.

And that sense of togetherness is also reflected in the friendships that have arisen this week. “Some students only came here because they wanted to participate. They have now made friendships for life and they will never forget that. I am really proud of that.”
