Sleeping in a holiday home made of French fries, plastic bottles and coffee cups. At Geversduin campsite in Castricum there are two holiday homes made from 4000 kilos of litter, which was partly found on the beach during Beach Cleanup Day. You can occasionally recognize a chip of colored plastic in the black outer panels.
Almost everything inside is also sustainable. Even the curtains, coffee machine and chairs are made from recycled plastic. Rianne Hoek of the campsite also proudly shows the double bed made of cardboard in the television program Pak an Groen. She guarantees that it is sturdy and that guests do not sink through it.

The holiday homes made from stray waste have been nominated this year by the ANWB for most special rental accommodation. In addition, Camping Geversduin has six sustainable tree houses. They are made of untreated wood and insulated with mineral wool. The high windows let in a lot of light and heat from the sun, so that the heating does not have to be turned on as quickly.

According to Rianne, the demand for this type of accommodation is increasing. People are becoming more aware. Camping in your own country by bike or train remains the most sustainable holiday. The CO2 emissions of transport are many times greater than accommodation.
