Slavko Vinčić will take charge of FC Bayern’s second leg against Lazio. The people of Munich don’t have the best memories of the Slovenians.
Is this referee a bad omen for FC Bayern? Slavko Vinčić will be in charge of the German soccer record champions’ Champions League game against Lazio Rome in Munich this Tuesday (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). In the second leg of the round of 16, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team has to make up for a 0-1 defeat in the first game in Rome in order to reach the quarter-finals of the European premier class.
The 44-year-old Vinčić has only appeared in a Bayern game in the Champions League once, namely in the bitter quarter-final exit in 2022 against blatant outsiders FC Villarreal. A 1-1 draw in the second leg at the Allianz Arena was not enough for Bayern, who were then coached by current national coach Julian Nagelsmann, to advance. Shortly before the end, Villarreal equalized. Incidentally, Bayern lost the first leg in Spain – as they recently did against Lazio – 0-1.
Vinčić has already refereed one game for Lazio this season, namely the 1-1 draw in the group stage against Atlético Madrid.
