The Frankfurt Regional Court has awarded comedian Oliver Pocher a total of 50,000 euros in damages and compensation because he was hit in the face.
Pocher had demanded the money from the attacker, the rapper Fat Comedy, through civil law. The sum consists of 5,000 euros in damages and 45,000 euros in compensation for the violation of general personality rights, as a spokeswoman for the Frankfurt district court said on Sunday on request. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported on it.
Pocher was attacked by the rapper Fat Comedy in March 2022 during a boxing match by Felix Sturm in Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle, where he was sitting in the front row. Videos show the attacker punching him in the face without warning. The rapper then distributed and commented on recordings of the incident himself.
In the civil proceedings last Thursday, a so-called default judgment was issued because no lawyer for the other side appeared at the appointment, said the court spokeswoman. The reasons for this are unclear. In its judgment, the court only considered half of the claims made by Pocher to be justified.
In the case of compensation for pain and suffering, 10,000 euros were originally requested, and 90,000 euros for the distribution of the recordings and other statements.
Objections to the decision can be lodged within two weeks after the judgment has been served. The case would then be heard again by the same chamber at the Frankfurt Regional Court. “For our client, Oliver Pocher, the judgment is an absolute success and a bit of compensation,” said Lawyer Patricia Cronemeyer of the BILD newspaper. Fat Comedy’s lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
The criminal case is not yet closed. A trial scheduled for the end of March for intentional bodily harm before the Dortmund District Court had been postponed. Pocher appears in it as a joint plaintiff.
Fat Comedy is accused of a strong blow to the head, which is said to have caused severe pain, ear damage, hearing loss and balance problems. The rapper had announced through his lawyer that he very much regretted the act.
