Slalom: Straßer fails in the final – alpine skiing – winter sports

No catching up in Méribel for Straßer

Only Linus Straßer from the German team met the requirements for the World Cup final in slalom. As third in the discipline ranking – 64 points separated him from Kristoffersen – the Munich rider theoretically still had chances after Armin Bittner, who won the slalom ranking in 1989 and 1990, to win the small crystal globe. He finished the first run in eighth place, 0.84 seconds behind.

Before the final run, the 29-year-old showed himself combative: “Everyone is within reach and will be billed after the second round. Everyone has to come down without making a mistake.”, said Straßer on ZDF. This season he has shown many times that he can catch up.

In Adelboden, for example, he moved up from 14th to third place, and in the night slalom in Schladming the 29-year-old fought his way from fifth place to victory. Straßer also managed to catch up in the home race at the Gudiberg: He went from 16th to three in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Straßer loses a lot of time and third place in the slalom ranking

But in the last slalom of the season, the race to catch up didn’t work out. Straßer didn’t find his way at all, made a lot of mistakes and crossed the finish line with a big deficit. In 20th place (+2.05 seconds), the Munich player didn’t even get any World Cup points and lost his third place in the discipline ranking to Austrian Manuel Feller, who went from ninth to third place (+0.77 seconds). “It’s extremely sad and bitter. I can’t find a recipe for the greasy snow. But it was still a cool season,” said Strasser.
