Pay channel Sky continues to work on its own offer. In a press conference, the Munich-based company announced innovations for customers.
The competition for Sky is huge. In the series and film sector, giants like Netflix and Disney+ are in the ring. The sports sector in Germany was firmly in the hands of Sky for a long time. In the meantime, DAZN is at least on par here, if not better. But what Sky has ahead of everyone: They are an entertainment platform that connects all services. However, Sky is also announcing new streaming services for 2022.
Three new streaming services for customers
Over the course of 2022, Sky will expand its existing offering in stages. That means there’s more performance for the same money. Sky will launch Apple TV+ at the end of March. All Sky-Q customers get the streaming service from the iPhone manufacturer for three months free of charge.
It will continue in the summer with Discovery+. Sky announced this at the beginning of the year. The entertainment service will be available to Sky-Q customers for 12 months. Very exclusive but probably not. Because Vodafone has probably also closed a deal with Discovery+, but there is no further information about it. Here is a small selection of originals that are available on the service:
- Shock Docs: Scream: The True Story. …
- Profiled: The Black Man. …
- 90 Day: The Single Life. …
- Love Off the Grid. …
- Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. …
- Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines. …
- American Detective with Lt. …
- 90 Day Fiancé Universe
Paramount+ will start in autumn with plenty of series and films. Like Peacock at the end of 2021, also unlimited in time. The catch: The streaming service is not free for all Sky-Q customers. Only users with a paid cinema package can enjoy series such as “Halo” or “The Real World Homecoming”.
Sky relies on partnerships
Sky continues to emphasize the importance of partnerships. Instead of attracting customers with Sky Originals, Sky licenses popular series from the USA. One is still proud to be the exclusive provider of HBO in Germany. Series like “Game of Thrones” and most recently “Euphoria” are sure to bring many users to Sky.
Everything that Sky does not have, the broadcaster tries to bring to the platform. Sky wants to give customers the experience of having just one remote control and controlling all apps via Sky. It is apparently assumed that people still have a Netflix subscription, of course, but would like it to at least run on the Sky platform.
Most recently, Sky entered into a partnership with the British BBC, brought the US service Peacock to the platform free of charge for Sky customers and integrated RTL+.
Do Sky Ticket customers look down the drain?
Sky hasn’t said a word about Sky Ticket or which services will be visible about it. That doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to be left out. Peacock series, for example, can also be viewed via the entertainment ticket. It could be similar in the fall with Paramount+ and the cinema ticket. However, the limited-time offers could be out at Ticket.
Little news about Sky Glass
The TV “Sky Glass” already released in Great Britain is still waiting for a release in Germany. Sky doesn’t give much new information about this. However, it is announced that the topic will be discussed in this country in the summer.
