Camblain (25) was sailing on the Ghent ring canal with his father. At the lock in Evergem it suddenly went completely wrong. The skipper’s dog wanted to jump from the boat onto the quay, but ended up in the water. Camblain jumped after it to save the beast. Just at that moment the locks on the other side opened again. As a result, the man got stuck between the quay and the boat and was crushed. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but he did not survive the accident.
