Ski jumping, World Cup in Lahti: Stefan Kraft’s victory – Karl Geiger defends yellow jersey – ski jumping – winter sports

“The weather was a factor, but that wasn’t the big problem. The conditions are the same for everyone. I didn’t have the connection to the ski, but I don’t know where that came from, the right one always rubs off on me. I know it not from me, at the Olympics it was a little better, now worse again. Let’s see why that was,” said Paschke.

Like the 31-year-old, Stephan Leyhe did not make it into the second round. With 114.5 meters it was only enough for him to place 34th. The big surprise was well-named. The Austrian surprised the competition with 126 meters and went into the second round as the leader. Only 0.3 points behind him, his compatriot Kraft had high hopes for his second win of the season.

German duo with good placings

Thanks to a strong performance and the best distance of the day of 131 meters, this was also possible. Kraft won superiorly ahead of Halvor Egner Granerud by a few points. Well-named was still sixth after 118 meters – his best World Cup result of his career.

After a strong first round (127 meters), Eisenbichler fell back to fourth place with meters in the second jump and missed a podium finish by 0.3 points. Geiger landed at 122 and 127.5 meters and was able to maintain his lead in the overall World Cup. In fifth place, he even increased his lead over Ryoyu Kobayashi, who also jumped 122 and 127.5 meters. The Japanese finished seventh.

Olympic champion Marius Lindvik was able to improve his jump to 127.5 m after a disappointing first jump (118.5 m), but in tenth place he had nothing to do with the decision.

Freund and Schmid offer themselves for team competition

After not being considered for Team Germany at the Olympic Games, Severin Freund returned with a good performance. After jumps of 116 and 125 meters, he was 18th. “I’m back rested and have invested a lot in my athletics. I’m quite happy, but maybe I can make it a little more fluid,” said Freund. Constantin Schmid was also convincing and finished 18th.

The result should also be a pointer in the direction of team competitions on Saturday. In all likelihood, based on the individual impressions, Geiger, Eisenbichler, Schmid and Freund will start there for the DSV team.
