Kathrina Althaus achieved a podium place for the second time in the third competition of the New Year’s tournament. However, the competition was also strongly influenced by the wind conditions in Ljubno. There were always interruptions, especially in the first round.
Before the last competition on Sunday (01.01.2023) Eva Pinkelnig can hardly be robbed of the overall victory in the New Year’s tournament. The Austrian, who won the first two competitions of the event in Villach, came second this time. After jumps of 90.5 and 93.5 meters, Pinkelnig was 0.9 points behind the winner Anna Odine Stroem (91.5 and 90.5 meters).
Althaus was 11.8 points short of the top duo, after the first round (90 meters) she was fourth, 85.5 meters in the second attempt was no longer enough to endanger Strom and Pinkelnig. After her second place in the second competition in Villach, she was one of the biggest contenders for victory.
Friday misses the landing
After seventh and fourth place in Villach, Selina Freitag came eleventh with jumps of 90.5 and 94 meters. She gave a better placement in both rounds because she was able to keep up with the top jumpers in terms of distance, but had big problems landing and got point deductions.
Anna Rupprecht lost her duel against Nora Midtsundstad in the first round, but made it to the next round with 87.5 meters via the “Lucky Loser”. On her second jump, the 26-year-old landed at 91.5 meters and finished 15th.
Luisa Görlich was eighth after jumps of 87 and 89 meters, Pauline Hessler (32nd) missed the second round by 0.1 points with 86.5 meters.
Four Hills Tournament in two years
The decision in the New Year’s tournament will be made in the last competition on Sunday (01.01.2023, 4.30 p.m.). The event is a kind of replacement because there is still no Four Hills Tournament for women. The premiere planned for 2023/24 was last postponed because Innsbruck and Bischofshofen had ruled out such a timely event. There should also be a women’s Four Hills Tournament in 2024/25 at the earliest.
