The crisis of the German ski jumper continues seamlessly at the World Cups in the Far East. After all, Andreas Wellinger believes to be on the right track with a view of the Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim at the end of the month.
The trip to Sapporo ended with the next disappointment for the DSV Alder. Only three Germans made it on the 1972 Olympic hill in the second round of the best 30 jumpers: Andreas Wellinger (9th place), Stephan Leyhe (24th) and Felix Hoffmann (26th).
Pius Paschke – still a series winner at the beginning of the season – fell down in Japan, missed the final after a hop of 117.5 meters.
In view of the result, it is difficult to find something positive in front of the World Cup in Norway to see the situation positively. After all, Wellinger made it into the top 10 on Sunday – a small ray of hope in the German ski jumping dark.
“In the second round, I was not entirely happy with the conditions,” summed up the 29-year-old. After a strong first set to 129 meters, Wellinger had even sniffed fourth on Stockerl. In the final passage, he then only reaches 121.5 meters – relapse in nine, eleven meters behind the podium.
DSV eagle want to beat back at World Cup “rested”
“Today it went much better. I got into flying more and was finally constant in the top ten again and thus on the right track,” said Wellinger (only 24th in the first competition).
In the upcoming competition -free week, the batteries have now been fully charged, said Wellinger. “We will go to training a bit, prepare for the World Cup to start fully and motivated.”
The German ski jumpers have been in a result and performance crisis since the beginning of the year. In the meantime, they have not entered the podium 15 times in a row – a longer doldrum within one season had last existed in the winter of 2007/08.
