Ski jumping: Norwegian Lindvik wins final – Geiger is 16th – ski jumping – winter sports

The Norwegian Marius Lindvik celebrated the day’s victory, the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi secured the overall World Cup in eighth place, the small crystal globe of the Ski Flying World Cup went to the Slovenian Ziga Jelar.

In perfect conditions with sunshine, blue skies and a relaxed atmosphere in front of around 10,000 fans, ski flying world champion Marius Lindvik set the last exclamation mark of a long winter with 40 World Cup competitions. The Norwegian won the season finale with distances of 241.5 meters and 245.5 meters. In doing so, he beat Yukiya Sato and Peter Prevc from Japan in second and third place. However, none of the jumpers managed the 250 meter jumps announced by the Planica organizers and a new world record

Kobayashi is enough for eighth place

In the fight for the big crystal globe of the Ski Jumping World Cup, a ninth place was enough for the Japanese Kobayashi. 1st place (235.5 meters/230.5 meters) to beat Karl Geiger. In the end, the 25-year-old is more than 100 points ahead of Geiger. The German, who said disappointed on Saturday, “I’ve come second so many times in Big Points, but I haven’t won that often”can look forward to second place in the season statement for the second time after 2019/2020.

Geiger just under his own record

As so often this season, Karl Geiger was the best German again. After 225 meters in the first round, he flew to a strong 242 meters in the final. Although he was 1.5 meters below his personal record, he ended the season forgivingly and with a wave to the wide circle.

The Planica anthem, which sounds for jumps of at least 230 meters, was also played by Andreas Wellinger in the final. The man from Ruhpolding flew on 223 and 230 meters and ended the season in 18th place.

Freund says goodbye with 215 meters

The other five German jumpers ended up outside the top 20 – they were all happy about an improvement in the second round.

Constantin Schmid (210 meters / 223 meters) and Markus Eisenbichler (209.5 meters / 220 meters) came in 23rd and 24th, Stephan Leyhe (204.5 meters / 208 meters) and Severin Freund (190.5 meters / 215 meters) were 27th and 28th at the season finale – Freund flew over the 200 meter mark again in the last jump of his career.
