National coach Stefan Horngacher will be without Markus Eisenbichler for the first two World Cups. The Bavarian will therefore miss the competitions in Ruka and Lillehammer.
Markus Eisenbichler will not be in the DSV squad for the first two Ski Jumping World Cups in Ruka, Finland and Lillehammer, Norway. National coach Stefan Horngacher announced this after the German championship on Sunday.
“In the last two courses and based on the performances at the German Championships, we have now nominated the team for the first World Cup,” said Horngacher. These include Karl Geiger, Andreas Wellinger, Philipp Raimund, Martin Hamann, Stephan Leye and Puis Paschke.
Horngacher: “Principle of performance”
“Those who are not there definitely have the opportunity to offer themselves with good training performance for the following World Cups. The principle of performance applies here. We are of course open to any athlete who has good prerequisites,” continued Horngacher.
Summer didn’t go according to plan
Eisenbichler once again had problems maintaining his performance level this summer. At the German Championships he only came tenth, Hamann won the jumping. At the Summer Grand Prix in Klingenthal, Eisenbichler came 31st.
Last season was rather mixed for the 32-year-old. At the Four Hills Tournament he only made it into the second round in Innsbruck. His best placings were two fourth places in the World Cup and a fifth place at the World Championships.
However, Eisenbichler’s return is very likely for the Four Hills Tournament. At a home World Cup, due to the national group, it is possible to nominate six more jumpers – twice as many as usual.
