Ski jumping live: Willingen HS 147 singles in the live ticker | 01/29/2022 16:00

16:46

Lovro Kos (SLO)

The gusty wind changes its mind quite quickly today, making it a little harder for Lovro Kos again right after the great conditions at Leyhe. Since the Slovenian still ends up at almost 130 meters, it is just enough for the top three.

16:44

Stephan Leyhe (GER)

So far, the DSV-Adler have done their job really well in this difficult Willingen weather. Also Stephan Leyhe? Yes, only seconds after Schmid he has great wind conditions again and reaches 136.5 meters. So he can’t attack compatriot Freund, but second place is still strong!

16:42

Constantine Schmid (GER)

Pity! Schmid could certainly have gotten a top jump here and has a high inrun speed. Although it comes out incredibly high, it goes down quite quickly. Why is that? In addition to an expandable take-off point, also upwind, which wasn’t quite as great as its predecessors. That’s why it’s still in fourth place.

16:41

Kamil Stoch (POL)

The Pole is followed by two Germans. But first the focus on the Pole: Of all the athletes, Stoch has the lowest run-up speed and can therefore not jump too far despite a technically solid performance.

16:39

Peter Prevc (SLO)

The conditions are practically perfect for Peter Prevc, but he can no longer really exploit the updraft in the last third of the flight. He wasn’t high enough for that before, 127 meters – there was still more in the realm of possibility… Sixth place anyway.

16:38

Piotr Zyla (POL)

Żyła has a jump of 130 meters and, despite this strong jump, still ranks fifth behind Wellinger.

16:37

Pius Paschke (GER)

In the ZDF interview, Severin Freund is satisfied and looks at Pius Paschke’s jump while answering. Paschke’s teammate summed it up as “a shame” – and rightly so! That was not optimal from Paschke, 112 meters. It will be tight with the second round…

16:35

Naoki Nakamura (JPN)

Like his compatriots, Nakamura has problems building up speed in the inrun track of the hill. So there are only 108.5 meters in it, so it will probably be difficult for round two.

16:33

Junshiro Kobayashi (JPN)

Ryoyu Kobayashi’s older brother, Junshiro, has certainly qualified for the second round. 123.5 meters is not the best performance, but sovereign.

16:31

Andreas Wellinger (GER)

And the next DSV-Adler: Wellinger also has good, although not as perfect conditions as Freund. With 129 meters, the Olympic champion from 2018 can also be satisfied for the time being, currently fourth!

4:30 p.m

Gregor Deschwanden (SUI)

Deschwanden makes it a bit the same as the German jumper, but ultimately doesn’t jump quite as far. Third place jumps out of it for the time being.

16:29

Severin Freund (GER)

The first German! How does Freund show up in Willingen? Does he brave the non-participation for the Olympics with a strong jump? Yes, and how! The conditions are optimal, but Freund takes advantage of that, is incredibly calm, especially in the flight system, and sets the telemark after 142 meters. The German clearly takes the lead.

16:28

Daiki Ito (JPN)

Daiki Ito is also in the midfield of the previous field.

16:27

Dawid Kubacki (POL)

The former Tournament winner didn’t get a good jump and made for a rather disappointing Polish performance to date.

16:26

Ziga Jelar (SLO)

The Slovenian jumps off the take-off optimally and also finds his flight system. So the leap goes far, as the first athlete today to go beyond the construction point. That’s enough for Ziga Jelar to take the lead!

16:24

Pavel Wasek (POL)

Wasek, the next Pole, didn’t make a good jump.

16:23

Keiichi Sato (JPN)

The first Japanese does his job well and will probably qualify for the second round in third place for the time being.

16:23

Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes (CAN)

With a good run-up speed and at best a solid jump in top wind conditions, the Canadian jumps to seventh place.

16:21

Stefan Hula (POL)

The first from the Polish team makes the Mühlenkopfschanze down. Temporarily there is eighth place for Stefan Hula.

16:20

Giovanni Bresadola (ITA)

The conditions and the jump from Bresadola to that of Contamine are almost identical, so the Italian will not achieve a good placement here from his point of view.

16:19

Robin Pedersen (NOR)

The wind direction quickly changes again a little, so that Pedersen already finds significantly worse conditions. Since he still flies up to 117 meters, he only has to leave Müller behind.

16:18

Decker Dean (US)

Can the American Decker Dean take advantage of the upswing? Jein, he gets away well at the beginning, but is too restless in the flight system. Nevertheless, fourth place is satisfactory.

16:17

Mathis Contamine (FRA)

Despite great wind conditions, the Frenchman’s jump is over after 101 meters, which is why he has to line up at the back.

16:16

Markus Rupitsch (AUT)

Because Markus Rupitsch jumps only half a meter shorter than his predecessor and compatriot Steiner, there is now a four-fold lead for the Austrians! Of course it won’t pass, but for the athletes who just jumped it was all good performances.

16:14

Maximilian Steiner (AUT)

Steiner catches the jump off the take-off table in good time and gets into the jump nicely. Only after 118.5 meters is it over – a good performance so far by the second Austrian squad.

16:12

Valentin Foubert (FRA)

The first jumps have already gone quite far, currently the athletes are having difficulties getting into the realms of Müller or Lackner.

16:11

Sabirzhan Muminov (KAZ)

The Kazakh Muminov lands in the snow after exactly 100 meters.

16:11

Stefan Rainer (AUT)

The run-up speed could at least suffer from the rain as the track will potentially slow down. Rainer is the first jumper to land under 100 meters.

16:10

Eetu Meriläinen (FIN)

With this meanwhile strong updraft, is it even possible to attack the hill record here? In the test jumping, long jumps had already become apparent, which of course cannot be achieved by the first athletes.

16:08

Mikhail Maksimochkin (RUS)

Incidentally, many nations did not send their best athletes, including the Russians. Maksimochkin is just barely scratching the three-digit number.

16:07

Markus Mueller (AUT)

The second Austrian Markus Müller jumps a strong 124 meters and thus ensures a double ÖSV lead, at least at the beginning.

16:07

Arttu Pohjola (FIN)

With the shortest jump, Pohjola is in last place for the time being.

16:06

Aleksandr Bazhenov (RUS)

At least the wind is blowing in the right direction, there is an updraft! At least partially, because the wind has been gusting up to date. Bazhenov has good conditions, jumps three meters further than Lackner, but has so many wind points deducted that he still ranks behind the Austrian.

16:04

Thomas Lackner (AUT)

It starts! Today’s conditions are not that easy. There has been light rain again and again in the last few minutes, and there is also a fairly strong wind. Lackner comes down after 112.5 meters.

16:02

Kobayashi back at the start

After the Japanese Tournament winner Ryoyu Kobayashi sat out yesterday’s mixed team competition, in which the German team by the way made a rather expandable appearance and narrowly missed the podium in fourth place, due to back problems, he is back in the game today. After all, he wants to close the gap to Geiger in the yellow jersey. The two Norwegians Marius Lindvik and Halvor Egner Granerud as well as Anze Lanisek, who took second place twice last week, are among the favorites alongside the two Germans.

15:57

Peier greatest Swiss hope

As always, the biggest ski jumping hope for the Swiss is the World Cup tenth Kilian Peier. Gregor Deschwanden, 30th overall, jumps between Freund and Wellinger.

15:55

ÖSV sends a small team into jumping

The ÖSV trio of Manuel Fettner, Daniel Tschofenig and Jan Hörl is taking a short break from competition before the Olympic Games, Philipp Aschenwald and Ulrich Wohlmentioned voluntarily went into quarantine after contact with Corona. This means that there is not much left for red-white-red: Stefan Kraft and Daniel Huber obviously want to jump at the front. There is a big gap behind the two strong jumpers, five athletes with low start numbers around start jumper Thomas Lackner will probably not have much to do with the decision.

15:49

Next dream weekend for Geiger and Eisei?

And that brings us to the DSV-Adler, who ensured dream results and a big grin among the German ski jumping fans last weekend. Twice in a row the top three athletes had exactly the same name: Karl Geiger triumphed in each case, Anze Lanisek avoided a DSV double victory in second place and Eisenbichler followed on the podium. Will that succeed again in the home World Cup that follows immediately? Stephan Leyhe and Constantin Schmid form the second row in the German team, followed by Pius Paschke. Andreas Wellinger wants to show today that the decision not to take him to Beijing was the wrong one – just like Severin Freund.

15:44

Violinists hot for the Olympics

“The Olympic Games are the greatest thing for an athlete.” With this sentence, the currently best German ski jumper Karl Geiger once again underlined the importance of the upcoming Olympic Games for himself in a digital media round. And thus also indirectly the jumping this weekend in Willingen. After all, the last competitions before the Olympics are a dress rehearsal and show the athletes where they stand before the Winter Games. Which in Geiger’s case gives hope at the moment! In addition, the athletes can regain their self-confidence – or just let the worry lines get bigger.

15:40

Mühlenkopfschanze

The Ski Jumping World Cup is back in Sauerland in northern Hesse. With the Mühlenkopfschanze, Willingen is an integral part of the Wetlcup calendar for ski jumpers. With a hill size of 147 meters and a K-point of 130, the hill is the largest large hill in the world – so we can expect long jumps. Klemens Muranka from Poland jumped 153 meters from last year.

15:31

Warm welcome

Have a good Saturday afternoon and welcome to the first men’s individual competition in Willingen! At 4 p.m. the Austrian Thomas Lackner will make the first jump of the day.
