Tande doesn’t give Lisso a chance
14:32
Justin Lisso (GER) vs. Daniel-Andre Tande (NOR)
Justin Lisso made really good jumps yesterday. Today nervousness may play a role after all. With only 121.5 meters, he does not give opponents Tande a major task on the way. He crossed the mark clearly and 134.5 meters put the Norwegian in a good mood. Where does he fit in with it? Fourth place ahead of Constantin Schmid.
14:30
Fredrik Villumstad (NOR) vs. Naoki Nakamura (JPN)
Fredrik Villumstad is the next Norwegian to cross the hill and will assert himself in a duel with Naoki Nakamkura. At 129.5 meters, the 22-year-old is not that bad at all. Until then, Nakamura has to come first. He doesn’t get much further from the distance, but takes very good marks and wins the duel. Villumstad is the new leader in the Lucky Losers.
14:27
Vladimir Zografski (BUL) vs. Robert Johansson (NOR)
Vladimir Zografski opened the next duel with a good set on the 128 meters. Robert Johansson can surpass that, but the 31-year-old has to accept a damper in the overall standings. 132 meters are not a real challenge for the competition.
14:26
Johann Andre Forfang (NOR) vs. Marius Lindvik (NOR)
Forfang and Lindvik compete against each other in the Norwegian duel. Forfang puts forward and comes down to 127.5 meters. For Lindvik it is now not only important to win the duel, but also to compete against the competition in the overall standings of the tour. And he does! Just in time for the competition, he catches up with his best competition with 138 meters and takes the lead in the ranking.
14:23
Artti Aigro (EST) vs. Danil Sadreev (RUS)
At Artti Aigro it doesn’t quite fit together either and with the Estonian it’s already the end after 110 meters. So he shouldn’t actually be a challenge for Sadreev. He can’t deliver a top set with 123 meters, but will win the duel and is through.
14:21
Daiki Ito (JPN) vs. Kamil Stoch (POL)
Daiki Ito missed his jump, but with his good technique he can still repair a little something and still manages the 127.5 meters. A distance that Stoch could not jump in the rehearsal. And even now in the competition it doesn’t come together for the Polish star. Immediately after the table, the height is missing and he only lands at 118 meters. As in Oberstdorf, Stoch loses his duel. What a difficult tour for the Pole!
14:20
Freund ends up far behind Zajc
14:19
Timi Zajc (SLO) vs. Severin Freund (GER)
What a tough task that Timi Zajc da Severin Freund gives on the way! The Slovenian comes out really well, makes a lot of steam and burns the 137 meters into the snow. What is friend now following? 128 meters make the DSV starter shake their heads. With currently number one among the lucky losers, nothing is lost yet.
14:17
Simon Ammann (SUI) vs. Daniel Huber (AUT)
Big trouble with Simon Ammann. The veteran from Switzerland screwed up his jump in the transition phase at the table and then couldn’t get more than 126.5 meters. A lot has to happen if that is enough for Daniel Huber from Austria. He doesn’t stay long at Ammann and the landing only comes after 132 meters. Huber moves up to third place, Ammann is third in the Lucky Losers.
14:15
Kevin Maltsev (EST) vs. Cene Prevc (SLO)
Kevin Maltsev was well on the way in the qualifying yesterday and also in the rehearsal there wasn’t much that separated him from duel opponent Cene Prevc. With a solid flight system he brings the 127 meters into the snow. But Cene Prevc can easily sail over it afterwards. With 131 meters Prevc is safe in the final, Maltsev is fourth in the Lucky Losers. It will probably not work out there.
14:14
C. Schmid prevails with 133 m
14:13
Ulrich Wohlgenannt (AUT) vs. Constantin Schmid (GER)
The next Austrian is already on track with Ulrich Wohlgenannt. With him, however, not much fits together and with 123 meters and bad grades a lot would have to happen if he wants to assert himself against Constantin Schmid. Things are going much better for him and after 133 meters he clearly wins the duel against Wohlgenannt. He moves into second place behind Kos, Wohlgenannt is eliminated.
14:11
Pawel Wasek (POL) vs. Philipp Aschenwald (AUT)
It was really tight between them earlier in the rehearsal, but now Wasek leaves it out. At 126 meters, he doesn’t necessarily give Philipp Aschenwald an unsolvable task. It doesn’t bring down a jump that goes far ahead, but it easily defeats Wasek after 128 meters.
14:10
Strong jump from Kos
14:09
Pius Paschke (GER) vs. Lovro Kos (SLO)
It goes straight to the next pairing. With Lovro Kos, Pius Paschke gets a very difficult opponent on the way. Again and again the last one could knock you out. Paschke has to present as a weaker athlete in the qualification and brings the 127 meters. What does Kos follow? A really good try! The 22-year-old’s jump does not end until 135.5 meters. The grades are also good and he will easily take the lead. For his part, Paschke takes second place in the Lucky Losers.
14:07
Ilya Mankov (RUS) vs. Anze Lanisek (SLO)
Ilya Mankov presents in the next duel. At 124 meters, it presents the shortest jump to date. It will not be easy to prevail against Anze Lanisek. The 25-year-old Slovenian takes full advantage of his experience and sails down to 130 meters. Lanisek takes the lead in the intermediate ranking.
14:06
Only 128 m for Granerud
14:05
Halvor Egner Granerud (NOR) vs. Dawid Kubacki (POL)
After Halvor Egner Granerud couldn’t cope yesterday, it’s his turn early this morning. In the rehearsal it went really well for the Norwegian, but now it depends. Can he make a good jump again? No! At 128 meters, he doesn’t get the distance he actually needs to achieve something in the overall standings. Granerud wins the duel after Kubacki lands at 126 meters, but his expression is still petrified because the opponents were different today.
14:03
G.Deschwanden opens the New Year’s competition
14:03
Gregor Deschwanden (SUI) vs. Evgeniy Klimov (RUS)
Gregor Deschwanden opens the knockout stage against Evgeniy Klimov from Russia. In the trial run, the Swiss had his opponent under control, what can he present now? With a slight tail wind, he can get away from the table easily and puts the 129 meters into the snow. Now he is waiting eagerly in the run to see what Klimov is adding. It has problems straight away, but still makes a lot of difference at 128 meters. Now it’s getting tight. Who will win the duel? It’s Deschwanden with a lead of just under 0.4 points.
13:55
25 duels in the 1st round
As is well known, the Four Hills Tournament has its own rules and this year there will again be competition in knockout mode. This means that there are 25 duels, of which the winners move into the second round. In addition, the five best losers (lucky losers) also progress. Halvor Egner Granerud was able to report back in the trial run. With 136 meters he prevailed over Markus Eisenbichler and Karl Geiger. Ryoyu Kobayashi finished fourth.
13:50
Three of the Swiss stay
In the Swiss competition, Garmisch-Partenkirchen was not nominated for the injured Dominik Peter and only three Swiss athletes will start from the Olympic hill. For Simon Ammann, Gregor Deschwanden and Killian Peier, however, something is definitely possible, even if nobody should jump for victory.
13:45
Nine German starters
The German team is starting today with a relatively large team through the national group. A total of nine DSV athletes qualified for the competition. In addition to Markus Eisenbichler and Karl Geiger, Stephan Leyhe was also able to convince in ninth place in the qualification. Severin Freund finished 17th and will certainly give everything today to post the first World Cup counters. Pius Paschke, Constantin Schmid, Andreas Wellinger as well as Justin Lisso and Felix Hoffmann from the national group also made the leap into the competition.
13:42
Strength missed competition
New Year’s Eve was completely different for Stefan Kraft. The Austrian is known for the fact that the hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen does not suit him, that it would end like this, but he probably would not have suspected either. Kraft has not been able to cope at all since training and there was no more than 55th place in the qualification either. That means: Kraft missed the actual competition at the second tour station. His teammates did better and Jan Hörl, Daniel Tschofenig and Manuel Fettner made the top ten. Philipp Aschenwald, Ulrich Wohlgenannt and Daniel Huber also had no problems making the cut.
13:38
Eisenbichler wins the qualification
Yesterday it was Markus Eisenbichler who got along best on the hill in Partenkirchen. The 30-year-old beat Kobayashi by 0.9 points in qualifying with 137 meters. Karl Geiger also confirmed his good form with third place. On the other hand, the Norwegians left out, who could not build on the performances from Oberstdorf.
13:29
Kobayashi wins in Oberstdorf
The ski jumpers have already completed one competition at the 70th Four Hills Tournament. Ryoyu Kobayashi from Japan prevailed in Oberstdorf. Halvor Egner Granerud follows in second place in front of his teammates Robert Johansson and Marius Lindvik. Karl Geiger followed in fifth place behind the Norwegian trio, but still has every chance on the tour. There are just 6.1 points between him and tour leader Kobayashi.
13:19
Warm welcome!
