Leyhe presents solidly
16:43
Stephan Leyhe (GER) vs. Giovanni Bresadola (ITA)
It’s already the turn of the next DSV jumper! Stephan Leyhe is doing better than yesterday’s qualifying day and can still put 122 meters in the snow. A hurdle that Giovanni Bresadola also has to clear first. The Italian is in a good mood this season, but it’s not enough against Leyhe today. He overrevs and it only goes to 118.5 meters. Leyhe is safe in the final, Bresadola is third of the lucky losers.
16:41
Jan Hörl (AUT) vs. Pius Paschke (GER)
It’s the first German-Austrian duel of the evening! Jan Hörl beats Pius Paschke with a set of 120.5 meters. And Pashke? He messes up his competition jump! After a jump error, he does not get up and falls at 110 meters. That should seal his departure!
16:39
Marius Lindvik (NOR) vs. Pawel Wasek (POL)
Marius Lindvik opens the third duel of the day. The Norwegian hasn’t had his best jumps this season and he’s still not satisfied with 121 meters. The anxious look goes up. What is Pawek Wasek putting down now? 121.5 meters. Is that exciting! He receives fewer plus points for the wind than Lindvik, actually landing 0.5 points behind the Norwegian and thus losing the duel!
16:36
Lovro Kos (SLO) vs Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN)
The first big duel of the day is coming up: Lovro Kos from Slovenia meets Ryoyu Kobayashi. The favorite in the duel is Kos, who was strong in the training sessions but messed up his training jump. What is he proposing now? He unpacks a good sentence and sails at 125.5 meters with a lot of tailwind. Kobayashi is challenged, shows one of his better jumps, but will just not win the duel. At 124.5 meters, he is just 1.7 points behind the competitor. Kos is through, Kobayashi leads the lucky losers.
16:34
Artti Aigro (EST) vs Constantin Schmid (GER)
And with Constantin Schmid it’s the next German eagle’s turn. At 111.5 meters, he lands even shorter than Eisenbichler, but is lucky that his duel opponent also messed up and only got to 108 meters. Schmid is further, Aigro is eliminated.
16:33
115 meters for Eisenbichler
16:33
Ipcioglu opens the jumping
16:33
Fatih Arda İpcioğlu (TUR) vs. Markus Eisenbichler (GER)
It is Markus Eisenbichler’s turn in the first duel. The German meets Turkey’s Fatih Arda İpcioğlu, who scored points for the first time in Oberstdorf a year ago. İpcioğlu submits and it goes down to 117 meters for him. Eisenbichler should normally be able to crack that, but so far it hasn’t worked out for him in Oberstdorf for the 31-year-old and the next disappointment is imminent! At 115 meters he lands earlier than his competitor. He will not be able to get any points from the grades either, because they are only in the 16 range. Eisenbichler loses the duel and it could also be difficult with the lucky losers!
16:24
25 duels in the 1st round
As is well known, the Four Hills Tournament has its own rules and this year the competition will be in knockout mode again. That means there are 25 duels from which the winners move into the second round. In addition, the five best losers (lucky losers) advance.
16:20
Granerud with the best sample
In the practice round, Halvor Egner Granerud underlined that he has a lot planned for today. The Norwegian jumped 138 meters and pulled away from Dawid Kubacki with 7.6 points. Third was Kamil Stoch. For Andreas Wellinger it was fourth place in front of Stefan Kraft.
16:15
Lone warrior Deschwanden
The Swiss ski jumpers are clearly struggling this season and only nine World Cup points have been recorded in the Nations Cup. She collected all Deschwanden, who was the only Swiss athlete who had traveled to the Four Hills Tournament. Deschwanden managed to qualify, but the opponent for the first round is not easy with Robert Johansson from Norway.
16:07
Leitner takes his chance
Clemens Leitner used his chance in qualifying. The Austrian, who had secured the seventh quota place for his team in the Continental Cup, was the second best Austrian behind Manuel Fettner (10th) in eleventh place. Michael Hayböck (13th), Daniel Tschofenig (17th), Philipp Aschenwald (18th) and Jan Hörl (30th) also managed to qualify without any problems.
16:04
All DSV jumpers represented
With Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger in seventh and eighth place, the German ski jumpers only brought two of their stars into the top ten, but made it through the qualification with the closed team. In addition to Geiger and Wellinger, youngster Philipp Raimund was also able to convince as a good 14th. Paschke, like Constantin Schmid (24th), Markus Eisenbichler (25th) and Stephan Leyhe (31st), ended up outside the top 20.
15:57
violinist against power
Another favorite experienced a difficult qualification. Stefan Kraft from the Austrian team struggled with his jump in difficult conditions after he couldn’t bring his technique cleanly to the edge of the table and was only 44th. This means that the fans can look forward to a great duel at the same time. Kraft will meet local hero Karl Geiger in a knockout duel in the first round. The second German-Austrian duel is formed by Pius Paschke and Jan Hörl. The duel between last year’s tour winner Ryoyu Kobayashi and Lovro Kos should also be interesting. Kobayashi is struggling with his form while Kos is currently on the upswing.
15:51
Granerud wins qualification
Yesterday the qualification for the opening competition was already on the agenda in Oberstdorf. It was the big favorites who prevailed. With 133.5 meters and 155.5 points, the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud emerged as the winner of the qualification. Dawid Kubacki finished 8.9 points behind in second place. Timi Zajc, who caught good updraft conditions, was third.
