The German ski jumpers Karl Geiger, Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger got into a promising position at the home World Cup on Saturday (February 4th, 2023) in Willingen. Before the final round, the man in the yellow jersey leads.
Geiger is currently in fifth place. He is 25.1 points behind the current leader Halvor Egner Granerud (149.5 meters). Anze Lanisek flew half a meter further than Granerud. However, the Slovenian was awarded 5.8 points less. Third is the Pole Dawid Kubacki (147 meters).
Close behind Geiger, who is 12.1 points short of the podium, is Philipp Raimund in seventh place. Andreas Wellinger was also able to convince. The man from Traunstein follows directly behind his teammates in eighth place.
Eisenbichler cannot confirm the qualification jump
Already in the qualification, which had to be postponed due to the weather and therefore took place before the competition, Geiger was able to shine with 136 meters. He was then able to build on that and was more than satisfied with his jump to 137 meters on an upswing.
Markus Eisenbichler even had the best jump in qualifying (141.5 meters). But in the competition, the jump failed him. His flight was over after just 127 meters – equivalent to 28th place before the second round.
Raimund: “It was wonderful”
Raimund set the first exclamation mark of the day. The youngster, who had already shown strong performances in the past few months, had a perfect jump and crowned his leap to 142.5 meters with a clean telemark. That should be the interim lead for the 22-year-old from SC Oberstdorf. “It was wonderful. The jump was good, I noticed right away at the top that something could work. I’m very satisfied“said Raimund happily afterwards.
Wellinger, currently the DSV jumper in the best form, jumped with a lot of tailwind. 132 meters and a few bonus points also put him in the top ten. Local hero Stephan Leyhe, who celebrated his first and only individual World Cup victory three years ago in Willingen, also finished 15th in the second round with 137 meters. This was also achieved by Constantin Schmid with 133 meters and 20th place.
National group: Trio survive qualification
After the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the DSV was able to field a national group with six other jumpers for the second time this winter. While Justin Lisso, David Siegel and Luca Roth survived the qualification, Martin Hamann, Finn Braun and Pius Paschke were only spectators in the competition.
Roth and Siegel opened the first round, but did not make it into the final with 113 and 113.5 meters. Although Lisso jumped ten meters further, but also had to cancel the sails.
