Ski jumping: Althaus is second in Willingen – Friday crashed – ski jumping – winter sports

Competition ended prematurely after the first round

There was no second jump because difficult wind conditions could not ensure a safe competition. “For me it is the right decision to cancel the second round. I think shortly before the Olympics you don’t have to risk anything anymore“, said Althaus after the only round in the ZDFinterview and was happy about her sixth podium finish this World Cup season: “The jump was one of my better ones.”

Friday crashes on landing

A strong wind made the jumps from the Mühlenkopfschanze difficult. Even the trial run fell victim to the circumstances and there were repeated delays during the competition. When Selina left the Bakken on Friday, there was the first moment of shock. The Saxon crossed her skis on landing after 102.5 meters and hit her head several times on the slope.

DSV gives the first all-clear

But the worst fears did not materialize. After a break in treatment, Freitag was able to walk off the piste on his own with a pained face and apparently only survived the incident with minor injuries. She was taken to a hospital for further investigation as a precaution. “Apparently we were lucky in misfortune. She escaped with abrasions. So far there are no indications of more serious injuries. TOI Toi Toi“, explained DSV-Speaker Florian Schwarz im ZDF.

Eva Pinkelnig then found clear words. “The circumstances are irregular. The trail stops. This is not an advertisement for ski jumping. If there’s a second round today, I’m definitely not going to jump“, announced the Austrian.

Hessler disappointed: “I have no idea what’s going on

The second best German was Juliane Seyfarth, who landed after 100 meters and came in 16th place. Pauline Hessler was visibly struggling with crosswinds and, with 78 meters, placed 20th. “I have no idea what’s going on. Actually, I was in good shape. It annoys me that I haven’t grasped the hill yet. It can only get better“said Hessler afterwards ZDF-Interview.

The women celebrate their premiere at the World Cup in Willingen. For the very first time there will be a women’s competition on the world’s largest large hill in Northern Hesse in addition to the men’s competition.

Olympic singles already in a week

The World Cup in Willingen is the last yardstick for the ski jumpers before the Olympic Winter Games. In Beijing, the women’s individual is already planned for the first day of competition (February 5). Before that, Althaus and Co. will contest the second individual competition in Willingen on Sunday (in the live ticker on sportschau.de), before the trip to China is due. Althaus won the silver medal at the Pyeongchang Games four years ago.
