Ski jumper Stefan Kraft equals Janne Ahonen’s record

Stefan Kraft is currently in top form. He had recently been in poor health. However, on Sunday he set a record.

The Austrian Stefan Kraft drew level with Janne Ahonen from Finland. On Sunday he took second place behind the Japanese Ryōyū Kobayashi at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Wisla, Poland, securing his 108th podium place in the World Cup – as many as the “ski jumping god Ahonen”, as Kraft calls him, has.

Kraft had not expected this ski jumping record so quickly after all the turbulence of the past few days. “I’ve been feeling really bad since Tuesday. This morning the energy came back a bit. Yesterday it wasn’t fun to watch and lie exhausted in bed,” said the 30-year-old Austrian on Sunday evening.

“Something special”

Regarding his podium places, he added: “It’s something special, so many podium places. Catching up with Janne Ahonen as the ski jumping god is wonderful. I’m extremely happy and proud that it’s already been achieved,” said Kraft, who won his second Finished in place just ahead of the German Andreas Wellinger.

He was unable to take part in the super team competition on Saturday for health reasons. Kraft is the best ski jumper this winter and leads the overall World Cup by a clear margin.
