Bakuriani (AP) – Ski freestyler Aliah Delia Eichinger has brought in the first World Cup podium of her career. The 20-year-old took third place in the slopestyle competition in Bakuriani, Georgia.
However, she also benefited from the small starting field when the wind was sometimes strong. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, teams from a number of nations decided not to travel to Georgia, only four women and ten men competed there.
Eichinger’s teammate Muriel Mohr was fourth. Vincent Veile and Sebastian Fischer took fifth and seventh place. The victories went to the Canadian Megan Oldham and the Swiss Andri Ragettli. In the slopestyle discipline, athletes slide over iron bars and jump over snow ramps on a course. They show spectacular flight interludes – sometimes even backwards.
