The Slovenian top ski jumper Anze Lanisek will be out for a long time due to injury and will therefore also miss the Flying World Championships on Kulm.

The 27-year-old suffered a knee injury during training in Planica on Tuesday and is unlikely to play in any competitions for around two months.

“Anze injured his right knee when landing during training on Tuesday. Examinations have shown that the cruciate ligament is damaged, but fortunately no surgery is necessary. He will have to wear a knee brace for a while in order to optimally heal the injury.”said team doctor Matej Drobnic, according to a statement from the Slovenian Ski Association on Wednesday.

“I’m glad nothing serious happened and I plan to return to the World Cup this season”said Lanisek. The World Cup will conclude at the end of March with Slovenia’s home ski flying in Planica.

Winner of the New Year’s jumping

Lanisek is one of the best ski jumpers this winter; he also won the New Year’s ski jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on January 1st. Along with Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger, the Austrian Stefan Kraft and Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi, Lanisek was actually considered one of the favorites for the competitions in Bad Mitterndorf this weekend. Lanisek will be replaced by Ziga Jelar.
