Andreas Wellinger and former world champion Karl Geiger lead the German squad at the Ski Flying World Championships in Bad Mitterndorf, which begins on Thursday.
In addition to Wellinger and Geiger, national coach Stefan Horngacher called up Stephan Leyhe, Pius Paschke and Philipp Raimund for the competitions at the Kulm.
“Are capable of winning a medal”
“We are currently in a position to win a medal in the individual, Andreas Wellinger is in very good shape. He also showed very good performances on this hill last year.”said Horngacher: “We recently proved in Zakopane that we can compete for the medal places with the team. There will be a hot battle for the first three places here.”
Eisenbichler and Schmid not there
The weak German record holder Markus Eisenbichler is not there in Bad Mitterndorf; Constantin Schmid was dropped from the most recent World Cup squad due to the team being downsized by one jumper.
The qualification takes place at the Kulm on Thursday, the individual world champion will be determined in four rounds on Friday and Saturday, and a team competition will take place on Sunday (2 p.m. each time). The last German world champion was Geiger in Planica in 2020; a German team has never won the title.
