The end of the Alpine World Ski World Cup in Sun Valley is whirled by the weather. The downhill races of women and men had to be canceled due to the adverse wind conditions.
This was announced by the World Association FIS on Saturday (March 22nd, 2025) shortly before the men’s departure. Previously, strong snowfall had already caused a delay in the start at night, which is why the races because of “persistent work on the route“were moved to the rear by several hours.
Competitions are not made up for
During the day, strong winds also caused problems. The start was initially postponed again before the jury ultimately decided to completely cancel the races. Both competitions are not made up for.
The Super-G of the Women and Men (from 6 p.m. in the Sportschau-Livestream) is now planned for Sunday before the giant slaloms on Tuesday and the two slaloms form the end of the World Cup premiere in the US state of Idaho.
Crystal balls for Odermatt and Brignone
This also made the decision in the World Departure Cup. Total World Cup winner Marco Odermatt from Switzerland, as in the previous year, also gets the small crystal ball for the best downhill. Compatriot Franjo von Allmen, who would have had a chance with 83 points behind, is leaving.
With Federica Brignone from Italy, the overall World Cup winner also secured discipline rating with Federica Brignone. The Austrian Cornelia Hütter and Sofia Goggia from Italy are left behind.
