Munich (AP) – Ski racer Thomas Dreßen sees himself on the best way back to top performances after a long injury break. “We’re as close to 100 percent as we haven’t been for years,” said the Bavarian from “Sport Bild”.
Despite a tight program of fitness training and skiing, he currently feels “no pain at all”. Nevertheless, he stated: “It must be clear to you that one hundred percent will never be feasible after such a serious injury.”
After the World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo a year ago, Germany’s best downhill skier underwent an operation on his damaged right knee, during which free pieces of cartilage were removed and the cartilage smoothed. The winner of the 2018 Kitzbühel downhill had missed the previous speed competitions this winter and the Olympic Games.
“Now it’s time to calm down and go skiing for a few years in a row,” said Dreßen, who had repeatedly struggled with injuries in his career. His comeback is planned for next season. “My goal is to be up front again right from the start.”
