Three negative corona tests, but still in isolation: The skeleton driver Kim Meylemans, who was born in Germany and is competing for Belgium, reported in tears about her opaque fate a few days before the start of the Winter Olympics.
“I thought I could go to the Olympic Village now,” she said in a video published on Instagram on Wednesday. “However, the ambulance went to another facility where I am now. I have to stay here for another seven days with two more PCR tests per day without contact with anyone else,” she said.
Although she is allowed to train “alone”, she does not know if she will ever get to the Olympic Village. She now wants to think about her next steps, explained the 25-year-old, who started as a junior for Germany and has been on the ice channel for Belgium since 2014: “I’m not sure if I can stand 14 more days of isolation while the Olympic Games take place.”
Meylemans had tested positive when she arrived in Beijing on Sunday, after which she tested negative three times.
She had only gone through a corona infection at the beginning of the year. The women’s competition in skeleton will take place on February 12th, next Monday the first training run is on the agenda.
