Skating team Jumbo-Visma attracts all-round champion Conijn

The Jumbo-Visma skating team has captured Merel Conijn. The 20-year-old Dutch all-round champion has signed a two-year contract with coach Jac Orie’s team.

“I’m looking forward to playing for this big and professional team,” says Conijn. “I spoke extensively with Jac and immediately got a good feeling. The scientific approach and the clear way of communicating appeal to me. Nothing is left to chance.”

Conijn narrowly missed tickets for the Olympic Games at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Thialf at the end of December. A few weeks later, she won the national all-round title for the first time in her career. At the World Allround Championships in Hamar, Norway, she made her debut at the beginning of March with sixth place.

“I had an incredibly beautiful year and I am very grateful to my previous team for that”, Conijn thanked her previous team Worldstream-Corendon. “It felt like a rollercoaster, which went upside down a number of times. Of course it was disappointing that I just missed the Games, but winning the Dutch National Championships and participating in the World Cup made up for a lot. I am proud of what I did in performed for a short period of time.”
