Skating success again at NK: Tijmen Snel takes first national sprint title

Following the success of Merel Conijn, Tijmen Snel has won the Dutch sprint title in men’s skating. The 24-year-old Amsterdammer thus writes his first national title to his name. Janno Botman grabbed the silver.

On Saturday, Snel was third in the 500 meters, which was won by Dai Dai N’tab. Thanks to his victory in the 1,000 meters, he took the lead in the standings. Partly due to the failure of his competitors N’tab, who fell hard during the 1,000 meters, and Kjeld Nuis (thigh injury), Snel had the best papers.

Today he strengthened his lead by crossing the finish line first in the second 500 meters. Snel was the only skater to dive under 35 seconds with a time of 34.88 seconds. In the closing 1,000 meters he had a lead of 1.46 seconds over Botman. Snel finished third in the final stage and that was enough to remain first in the general classification.

For Dai Dai N’tab, the Dutch sprint already ended on Saturday. He crashed hard in the 1,000 meters.
