Skaters can rejoice: the halfpipe is coming!

In the future, there will be a halfpipe for skaters at the New National Gallery

The skaters are a problem for the terrace of the Neue Nationalgalerie. Their tricks lead to damage to the outdoor area. That will soon change, because a halfpipe is to be set up for the skaters.

It’s a great place to skate, but the boards are causing damage to the area due to the daring figures.

A year ago, Klaus Biesenbach, director of the Neue Nationalgalerie, announced that he would set up a halfpipe for the skaters. Instead of chasing them away, Biesenbach relies on cooperation.

As BZ learned, the project is at an advanced stage. Korean artist Koo Jeon A has designed two models for the facility. Together with the skater community, the Neue Nationalgalerie decided on a design.

Now the monument protection has to approve. The location will then be on the right, rear side of the Neue Nationalgalerie.

Klaus Biesenbach, Director of the National Gallery, admires the skaters. “It’s art for me,” he once said. He can’t do anything that requires speed.
