The Dutch skaters who will be in action this weekend at the World Cup final in Heerenveen, skate for Giro555. The sponsor logos on their skating suits make room for the Giro555 logo once.
After the World Cup final, which will be held in Thialf on Saturday and Sunday, the skaters provide their suits with a signature, after which they are auctioned. All proceeds go to the aid campaign for Ukraine.
“We were struck by the images from Ukraine, a war that affects us all,” said Herman de Haan, director of the KNSB. “It took little effort to get all parties behind this initiative. Everyone likes to put their shoulders to the wheel and that is heartwarming.”
Speed skater Irene Schouten took the initiative on Monday by auctioning the suit in which she won the world all-round title for Giro555. Schouten had already wanted to drive a suit with the logo of the cooperating aid organizations at the World Allround Championships, last weekend in Hamar, Norway, but there was too little time to achieve that. The three-time Olympic champion from Beijing therefore chose to auction her suit after the tournament.
