Sjur Röthe: 50 kilometers at the Olympics

Sjur Röthe is a long-distance specialist.

The world champion of the message and the combined race Sjur Röthe33, is a skier who rarely makes it to the competition in terms of schedule.

This has also been the case at the Beijing Olympics. The Norwegian plane skied in the combined race and will compete next Saturday for 50 kilometers.

There will be a race break of almost two weeks.

Röthe says that he enjoyed himself in the Olympic Village with his teammates, even though he didn’t start for 15 kilometers or a message in between.

– I’m social, so it’s great that I’ve been on the team. We have seen great performances. I have gained experience.

Röthe stopped the 15 + 15 kilometer combination race after just over ten kilometers.

Zhangjiakou’s conditions hit the Norwegian in the face. Baanos have even been called the most difficult in the history of value competitions.

– Altitude, cold and difficult tracks are a brutal combination. A collapse can come. The body is in good shape before the race. It’s horrible if a collapse comes.

The dawn took its toll, though Röthe didn’t even make it halfway.

– I was out after the race. I’ve had to look for fitness since then. It’s gone well now.

Röthe is not in the races Johannes Kläbon or Alexander Bolshunov style cannon for every trip.

At the 2014 Sochi Olympics, he skied in the combined race alone.

In Seefeld, the Norwegian raced a message and three personal trips. There were only two races in Falun, Lahti and last year in Oberstdorf.

However, Röthe left Germany voluntarily. The family was having a firstborn child.

Since the opening trip to the Olympics didn’t go down the tube, Röthe hopes a lot from 50 kilometers.

– I’ve had a lot of good workouts. I hope I get my body in balance.

– I’ve been thinking about the race for a long time. I’m glad I can compete. Thanks for the trust, he screams in the direction of coaching.

Saturday’s Fifty is not only an extreme endurance race but also a strength of mind. The heavy track, the cold, the wind and the thin air put an extraordinary strain on the skiers.

Röthe is confident.

– I think 50 kilometers is fine. I’m fighting for a medal. I hope I’m on the podium.

Röthe has skied 50 kilometers in the World Cup 11 and in the championships four times. He has been in the top ten a total of ten times.

There are three podium places.

In 2019, Röthe won the World Championship bronze medal. He is one of the biggest pre-favorites among other Norwegian and Russian skiers.
