Six people from Drenthe and one from Groningen ascend the Col du VAM. These are the selections for the European Cycling Championships

Bauke Mollema, Elmar Reinders, Maike van der Duin, Axel van der Tuuk, Tibor del Grosso, Thom van der Werff and Karst Hayma are in the selection of the Dutch team during the European Cycling Championships in Drenthe.

The European Cycling Championships will be held in Drenthe between September 20 and 24. The time trials pass through Emmen and the final of the road races ends with a climb of the elevated VAM mountain.

“The climbs are steep and come in quick succession. But the weather can certainly also be a factor, especially on the approach loop but also on the outside circuit that you always drive before you start your climb again. There are many different scenarios possible for the road race and it is certainly an advantage that we have a strong selection across the board. But emphatically with Lorena [Wiebes, titelverdedigster, red.] and Demi [Vollering, red.] as finishers,” national coach Loes Gunnewijk explains the women’s selection.

Her colleague in the men’s team Koos Moerenhout: “With Olav Kooij and Marijn van den Berg we have spearheads that could compete for the win, but we also have riders in-house who can anticipate what is happening in the race and can respond accordingly. action. This road course certainly offers us perspective, we start with a promising team with riders who can handle this terrain. But we don’t have the top favorite in our ranks like at the World Cup.”
