The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality is making six million euros available for the second phase of the ‘We&Wadvogels’ programme, a program led by the Bird Protection Society in collaboration with several other nature organizations. The aim of the program is to work on the recovery of wading bird populations.

The Wadden area is the largest and most unique nature reserve in the Netherlands. Millions of migratory and breeding birds depend on the area for their food, resting and breeding grounds. The Wadden area is under pressure due to climate change and the many human activities in the Wadden Sea. Various wading birds such as the avocet, the sandy plover and the Arctic tern are on the red list of threatened species.
