Six instead of three sprint races possible in the 2023 season

London (AP) – The number of sprint races in Formula 1 is to be increased from three to six in the coming season. This is one of the results of a meeting of the Formula 1 Commission on April 26th in London.

However, this change still has to be decided by the Motorsport World Council. The world association Fia first wants to check what effects the changes would have on the staff on the track. It is still unclear at which races there will be a sprint on Saturday before the actual Grand Prix. There is currently no race calendar for 2023.

The first of three sprint races this year took place in Imola in Italy. The distance covered is only 100 kilometers. The format replaces the actual qualifying and should also ensure more action and excitement on the race weekends.
