The Ajax Women Fanatics saw their team last night with six people in the stands play nicely against Bayern Munich Frauen. They waved flags and shouted their lungs out. Afterwards they drank a beer together with the fanatics of Bayern Munich: “That is possible in women’s football.”
He would have liked to go to the Christmas market, but because the stadium tour ended in the Allianz Arena, that was unfortunately no longer possible. Melvin Kaliey, founder of the Ajax Women Fanatics, bummed. “I thought it would be nice for the Christmas feeling, with all those lights in Munich. That’s why you come to away games, to experience some of the culture.”
But of course he is mainly concerned with the match. Kaliey rarely misses one, even when he has a fever of forty degrees. He has a tattoo with the shirt number of his favorite player Kay-Lee de Sanders. On Thursday morning he and two other members of his supporters’ association left at 4:30 am with a trunk full of flags. Others went by plane or train. “It sometimes feels like a second full-time job,” says Kaliey. “But it brings me so much joy that I don’t care.”
After the match, Kaliey is exuberant: “To get a point here against such a strong Bayern is unbelievable. I will happily drive ten hours back home tomorrow for that.”
